100 Lawyers

13, 2006) - Constangy, Brooks and Smith, LLC, a national labor
and employment
law firm representing management with clients across the country,
members (partners) William R. Loftis (office head), Kenneth P.
Carlson, Jr., and Robin E. Shea have been selected as 2006 North
Carolina Super Lawyers. Member, John J. Doyle, Jr. was selected
to the elite group of The Top 100 Lawyers as well as Super Lawyers
for labor and employment law.
Only five percent of attorneys receive Super Lawyers honors each
year. Attorneys are selected based on the quantity and quality
of nominations they received from other North Carolina attorneys.
The Top 100 Lawyers receive the highest total points in the balloting,
research and review process.
Loftis, head of the firm's litigation practice group, is a senior
litigator who has defended a number of class action claims and
assists employers in problem prevention and legal analysis of complex
workplace issues. Loftis is also recognized as a 2006 Who’s
Who Legal USA – Management Labor and Employment, the Best
Lawyers in America 2006, was ranked as one of North Carolina’s
top attorneys in the 2005 Chambers USA Guide and is regularly named
to the Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite for employment
law.
Carlson is a senior litigator who primarily represents companies
in discrimination, harassment and wrongful discharge law, and regularly
advises employers on how to avoid problems before they occur. He
also helps companies develop trade secret protection programs,
and does a significant amount of covenant not to compete and trade
secret litigation. Carlson is an adjunct professor at the Wake
Forest University School of Law where he teaches courses in trial
practice and trade secrets/unfair competition, and is regularly
named to Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite for employment
law.
Doyle, select to The Top 100 Lawyers as well as Super Lawyer, has
represented employers in all aspects of labor and employment law
matters for more then 35 years. He is the founding chair of the
North Carolina Bar Association’s section on Labor and Employment
Law and was inducted to The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers
in 1998. He is also recognized as a 2006 Who’s Who Legal
USA – Management Labor and Employment, the Best Lawyers in
America 2006, was ranked as one of North Carolina’s top attorneys
in the 2005 Chambers USA Guide and is regularly named to the Business
North Carolina’s Legal Elite for employment law.
Shea, a senior litigator, practices in all areas of employment
law, including collective and class actions under the federal and
state wage and hour laws, the federal employment discrimination
laws and the Family and Medical Leave Act. She also represents
employers before the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs.
Shea is a member of the Professionalism and Continuing Legal Education
Committees of the North Carolina Bar Association, and has published
writings on a wide variety of employment law topics.
