February 19, 2008 Emory University School of Law Student Awarded Annual Diversity Scholars Award Atlanta, GA - Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLC proudly presented its annual 2008 Diversity Scholars Award to Emory University School of Law student Nicholas D. Bedford. Bedford, a second-year law student, received a $2,000 scholarship. Constangy initiated the award program in order to recognize the achievements of deserving law students and help defray the considerable expense of law school, while promoting diversity in the legal profession. The firm awards scholarships to a second-year law student in each of the regions where it has offices. Award recipients were selected based on the following criteria: academic achievement; commitment to diversity in the community, in the student’s school or work environment; and personal achievement in overcoming challenges to reach goals. Emory University School of Law student Nicholas D. Bedford was named one of the twenty Earl Warren Scholars by the NAACP Legal Defense Fund for his commitment to civil rights. Bedford is currently the fundraiser chair for Emory’s Black Law Student Association, a mentor for the National Black Law Student Association College Student Division and a volunteer at Brown Middle School in Atlanta.
