Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLC Attorneys Ranked Top One Hundred Labor Attorneys in the United States

Atlanta –Constangy, Brooks & Smith LLC, a national labor and employment law firm representing management with 13 offices in nine states, proudly announces managing members (equity owners), Townsell G. Marshall, Jr. and Clifford H. Nelson, Jr., in the firm’s Atlanta office; W. Melvin Haas, III, in the Macon office; Robert J. Janowitz and Stephen P. Schuster, in the Kansas City office; and Richard O. Brown in the Birmingham office, have recently been named Top One Hundred Labor Attorneys in the United States for 2007, as determined by Labor Relations Institute, Inc., a leading industry information source.

Constangy’s traditional labor attorneys made the elite list due to the number of National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) elections in which they represented clients and the success of those election outcomes.  They were selected from more than 8,700 labor attorneys evaluated by Labor Relations Institute.

Marshall’s principal practice areas are union avoidance consulting and campaigns, NLRB litigation and union negotiations and arbitration.  He has more than 30 years of experience with proceedings before the NLRB and the courts.  Before joining Constangy, he served as an attorney for the NLRB.

Nelson, a 30-year traditional labor lawyer veteran, specializes in every aspect of proceedings before the NLRB and the courts.  His principal practice areas are union avoidance consulting and campaigns, NLRB litigation and union negotiations and arbitration.  Nelson is also the co-chair of the firm’s labor relations practice group.

Haas, head of the firm’s Macon office, has 35 years of labor and employment law experience.  He has handled more than 100 union elections, represented management in numerous unfair labor practice proceedings, has acted as the collective bargaining spokesman in numerous collective bargaining proceedings and arbitrations, has assisted companies in due diligence, mergers, acquisitions and decertifications and has successfully represented management in the some of the largest elections in the country.

Janowitz specializes in every aspect of proceedings before the NLRB.  He has defended cases involving union organizing, collective bargaining, single/joint employer status, successor-ship, discrimination, healthcare bargaining units and cessation of operation.  He also serves as chief negotiator in complex negotiations for initial and successor labor agreements in many industries including healthcare, transportation, warehousing, construction, hospitality, retail, entertainment and manufacturing.  Before entering private practice, Janowitz served as regional attorney for the NLRB.

Schuster focuses his practice in the areas of labor relations, union avoidance consulting and campaigns, NLRB litigation and employee relations counseling.  He is also the co-chair of the firm's labor relations practice group.

Brown, a 28-year veteran and the office head of Constangy’s Birmingham office, devotes his practice exclusively to the representation of management, providing a full range of services related to the traditional labor and employment law.  His primary focus areas are union avoidance consulting and campaigns, NLRB litigation and union negotiations and arbitration.  Brown has represented both private and public sector employers.
