The Constangy, Brooks & Smith Environment
Constangy, Brooks & Smith practices labor and employment law exclusively, representing management. Unlike inexperienced attorneys at some other firms, associates at Constangy, Brooks & Smith are expected to handle cases "right out of the chute" and attain experience through hands-on learning, rather than through years of research memos and tagging along with more senior attorneys. It is not uncommon for our associates to take depositions, participate in mediation, draft dispositive motions and handle court hearings within months (sometimes weeks) of arriving at the firm. Constangy, Brooks & Smith prides itself in promoting an "open door" atmosphere, where junior attorneys are encouraged to approach their more-experienced colleagues with questions and concerns. Moreover, Associates are treated as self-motivated professionals from the outset and are expected to work the hours necessary to meet our clients’ needs and firm goals without excessive monitoring or unnecessary scrutiny.

Qualities We Look For In New Associates
Given the nature of the firm’s practice areas, we are looking for mature and articulate candidates with strong writing skills who are interested in practicing labor and employment law and representing management. Candidates should rank in the top 20% of their class and possess law review, law journal, moot court and/or mock trial experience. Recognizing that these criteria do not always guarantee success as a practicing attorney, Constangy, Brooks & Smith also considers candidates who do not meet the above-referenced criteria but who have significant relevant experience or otherwise have distinguished themselves as outstanding candidates.
