About Work-Life Balance

In Pursuit of Attorney Work-Life Balance: Best Practices in Management (2005), a study conducted by The National Association for Law Placement (NALP) Foundation, found more than 75% of supervised attorneys report having moderate to major problems in meeting their personal/health needs.  More than 70% of them also report having problems in handling family needs, household responsibilities, and finding time for leisure activities.

Work-life balance is an emerging topic but an old issue.  Having a balance between work life and personal life without one affecting the other dramatically has been a goal for some for years.  The demands for work-life balance solutions are expanding at an unprecedented rate; as a result, work-life balance is an increasingly hot topic.

As work and professional demands result in longer and longer workweeks making it difficult for employees to take care of family and personal needs, many companies are cultivating an atmosphere that allows for a better work-life balance.

Constangy, Brooks & Smith’s Corporate Counsel Work-Life Balance award is just one way to recognize those employers who have implemented successful strategies to assist their in-house attorneys in pursuit of work-life balance.
