Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLC counsels and represents employers.  We work exclusively with the complex, constantly changing and often contradictory set of labor and employment laws.  Since 1946, our attorneys have helped employers identify their labor relations objectives and reach those goals with a minimum of legal risk.  Working to develop and maintain positive employee relations is our primary objective and our greatest strength.  The firm was founded on the belief our clients are best served by a proactive approach to labor and employee relations.  Our focus is as strong today as when the firm was founded. 

Assisting employers' efforts to comply with the myriad labor and employment laws is a fundamental part of our practice.  Today, however, compliance alone is not enough.  Foresight is required.  Lawmakers continue to legislate social change through regulation of the workplace, making it increasingly easy for every employee to have some sort of legal claim.  Every "special interest group" has a mechanism to criticize employers.  Our focus on preventing problems includes assessing legislative trends and developing proactive advice and counsel - not merely reacting to someone else's agenda.  The legislative trends have heightened the importance of preventive work, but have created an environment of growing litigiousness.
