75 Years and Counting: A Current Perspective on the NLRA

November 19, 2010

Newly-appointed National Labor Relations Board Member Mark Gaston Pearce will be the keynote speaker at a program to be held in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Friday, November 19. The luncheon seminar is co-sponsored by Region 11 of the National Labor Relations Board and the ABA’s Section of Labor and Employment, Committee on Practice and Procedure under the NLRA. The event marks the 75th Anniversary of the NLRA, as well as the 60th Anniversary of Region 11, which is headquartered in Winston-Salem.

Board Member Pearce was sworn in on April 7, 2010, after receiving a recess appointment from President Obama. He will speak on issues of current interest to practitioners before the NLRB. The program will also include responses to Board Member Pearce’s remarks by representatives from both the management and labor bars. Fred Suggs, of the Ogletree Deakins firm in Greenville, South Carolina, will respond on behalf of the management bar; and David Prouty, Chief Labor Counsel for the Major League Baseball Players Association and former General Counsel for UNITE! and UNITE HERE, will respond on behalf of the labor bar. Both attorneys have been active in practicing before the Board and Region 11 for many years.

The program, beginning at 11:30, will be held at the University Parkway Holiday Inn, 5790 University Parkway, Winston-Salem, and will include lunch. The event will provide the opportunity to earn CLE credits. Registration for the program and lunch is $25.
