ATLANTA— Recognizing the importance of diversity, some law firms take steps to promote diversity inside their ranks. Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLP, takes that one step further to recognize and reward diversity outside its walls.

Constangy is proud to announce its 2010 Diversity Scholars Awards program. The national labor and employment-law firm will award one $3,000 scholarship in each of three regions to deserving second-year law students who have demonstrated academic achievement, a commitment to diversity in their community, school or work environment, and personal achievements in overcoming challenges to reach goals.

To be eligible, applicants must be a second-year student enrolled in an accredited law school that is located in one of the following three regions: Southern (Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee); Mid-West/West Coast (Texas, California, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin) and Eastern (North Carolina, Virginia/Washington, D.C., South Carolina and Massachusetts).

For more information about selection criteria or to download an application, please visit www.constangy.com/f-4.html. For questions about the application or the program, please contact Meg Zabijaka at mzabijaka@constangy.com.

All applications and supporting materials, including the applicant’s official sealed law school transcript, must be received on or before Monday, November 16, 2009.  Documents sent via facsimile, e-mail or received after the deadline will not be accepted or considered.

Scholarship recipients will be notified by December 21, 2009, with awards presented in early 2010.

Constangy, Brooks & Smith prides itself in its inclusive environment that values and utilizes the contributions of people with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. The diversity of those who work for Constangy is one of its greatest strengths. The firm is a recipient of the Exceptional Service Award presented by the Georgia Diversity Program of the State Bar of Georgia, and maintains a Diversity Council comprised of attorneys from across its offices to address issues and promote diversity within the firm.

In addition, Constangy founded a Workplace Diversity Initiatives Practice Group in 2007, led by Managing Partner W. Randolph Loftis. This practice group focuses on providing practical and legal counsel, guidance and advice on workplace diversity issues related to, but not limited to, race, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, military status, age and disability.  The group also provides clients with innovative ways to help relay their diversity message through training, speakers, discussion forums and recruitment efforts.
