ASHEVILLE—National labor and employment law firm Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLP, welcomes Of Counsel attorney Michelle Rippon to its Asheville office.  Her practice focuses on employment discrimination, ADA, FMLA, and wage and hour litigation as well as  handling unemployment claims before the Employment Security Commission.

She was previously a partner with Van Winkle Law Firm, where she successfully defended several sexual harassment claims, including one with a million-dollar-plus demand and a sexual harassment and retaliation claim in federal court filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Before entering law school, she taught high school English, French and Latin. Rippon began her legal career as a clerk with the North Carolina Court of Appeals and then as Director of Research for the North Carolina Supreme Court. She subsequently served as Executive Director of the Governor's Crime Commission.

Rippon previously was on the North Carolina Bar Association’s Board of Governors and just completed a three year term on the Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism.. She is a former member of the editorial board of the North Carolina State Bar Journal and currently serves as an attorney and board member for the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce. A certified mediator, Rippon graduated from North Carolina Central University School of Law and received a master’s in English from North  Carolina State University.
