Overview

Jim represents management in all aspects of employment counseling and litigation, with more than 25 years of experience guiding employers through complex workplace issues.

He defends clients in matters involving employment discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower claims, wage and hour compliance, workplace investigations, OSHA matters, employment-related torts, breach of employment contracts, and labor grievances. Jim has substantial experience managing complex multi-plaintiff cases and class actions.

Jim has represented employers in a wide range of industries, including financial services, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, restaurants, transportation, energy, technology, retail, and grocery. He regularly advises clients on litigation strategy, workplace policies, and risk management, providing practical counsel designed to help employers maintain compliant, productive workplaces.

Jim is a frequent speaker on employment law topics, presenting both nationally and internationally in locations such as Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, India, Indonesia, and Canada. He has long been active in the legal community, including leadership roles with the Inter-Pacific Bar Association and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA). He served as Chair of the Employment and Immigration Committee of the IPBA and Co-Chair of NAPABA’s Employment Committee, and currently chairs NAPABA's Best Lawyers Under 40 Committee.

Jim is a respected figure in the legal diversity space. He has served on several blue-ribbon commissions by appointment of the American Bar Association (ABA), including the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession and the ABA Council on Racial and Ethnic Justice. He also served on the ABA Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary, which evaluates federal judicial nominees. In 1999, Jim was invited to join President Clinton’s Lawyers for One America Initiative. His longstanding commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion continues to inform his work with clients and within the broader legal profession.
