The Massachusetts Department of Family and Medical Leave has issued revised regulations governing the new Massachusetts law, which provides for paid family and medical leave to all covered individuals working in Massachusetts. Despite the detail in these regulations, serious and confusing issues still exist.

This webinar will focus on what employers must do between now and the end of the year to be compliant with the new law. Some of the topics to be addressed include the following:

  • Which employers are covered by this new statute?
  • Who gets counted for purposes of determining employer contributions?
  • What does an employer do if some employees are not based in Massachusetts?
  • If an employer is covered by the statue, when do they need to notify their workforce about the new law?
  • How much may an employer deduct from an employee’s wages for this benefit?
  • How much may an employer deduct from a 1099 contractor for this benefit?
  • Can an employee/1099 contractor refuse to have the deductions taken from his/her pay?
  • When must employers send their contributions to MassTaxConnect?
  • How must employers report wages paid, payments for contract services rendered and other information about their workforce?
  • Do employers have to negotiate with a union regarding deductions from employees’ paychecks?
  • What does an employer do if it wants a private plan? What are the pros and cons of private plans?

Bonus: If you register by June 3, you’ll receive a set of slides that may be used to explain the new law and what will happen on July 1 to your employees and 1099 contractors.
