Presentation: 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m

Even as the federal government is stepping up its efforts to detain and deport (remove) undocumented individuals, efforts are afoot for increased worksite enforcement as well.  Join us for a practical discussion of how employers may be impacted:

  • Employers are likely to see an increase in the number of I-9 audits (with potential heavy fines), worksite raids, and civil and criminal penalties for knowingly hiring or continuing to employ undocumented workers.
  • Employers of H-1B and L-1 workers are more likely to be selected for unannounced "site visits."
  • Companies which are overly zealous in verifying employment eligibility of new hires may find themselves the subject of an "independent investigation" by the Immigrant and Employee Rights Division of the U.S. Justice Department.

Join attorney Penni Bradshaw for an update on these issues and learn best practices for avoiding liability.
