Constangy Adds Three Attorneys in California

Press Room
Atlanta, GA

The national labor and employment law firm Constangy, Brooks, Smith and Prophete, LLP is pleased to welcome three new attorneys to the firm’s Century City office, including a key new hire for the firm’s growing entertainment & hospitality industry practice.

Nestor Barrero has joined the firm’s Los Angeles office as senior counsel. Prior to joining Constangy, Nestor was vice president-employment law for NBCUniversal Media, LLC where as corporate counsel he advised business divisions in filmed entertainment, cable, English and Spanish broadcast stations, sports networks, studio operations and theme parks in Hollywood and Orlando. He also worked as employment counsel for Union Bank and with the employment practice group of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton in Los Angeles. He will be focused on advising entertainment studios and production companies, hotels, retail, restaurants, technology, finance and real estate firms. Nestor received his J.D. degree from UC Hastings College of the law and undergraduate degree from the University of California – Los Angeles.

Barrero was twice named one of the “Most Influential Latinos in Entertainment” in 2007 and 2015 by the Imagen Foundation. Barrero said he enjoyed his 19 years at NBCUni, surviving four mergers and several management regimes. He is looking forward to offering his in-house perspective, Spanish language capabilities and practical strategies to all types of businesses, with an emphasis on film and television studios, broadcast networks, as well as reality and scripted television production companies.

The firm’s rapidly growing Los Angeles office also welcomes two new associates.  Kimberly Bernstein, a 2013 graduate of Boston College Law School, joins Constangy from FordHarrison. Her practice focuses on defending claims of retaliation, discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and leave of absence violations. Joanna MacMillan, a 2011 graduate of Emory University School of Law, specializes in complex wage and hour class and collective actions in both state and federal courts. She comes to Constangy from McGuireWoods.

Ken Sulzer, who leads the firm’s California practices, noted that the firm’s California presence has grown by more than 20 attorneys since the Century City office opened in early 2016, including four attorneys who have joined the firm’s recently-opened San Francisco office. “We’ve focused on attracting top-quality, diverse talent. Nestor’s deep entertainment industry background is a great addition to our capabilities and will help us continue on our path to becoming an employment law powerhouse on the West Coast.”
