Constangy Presents 2020 Excellence in Work-Life Balance Award to Florida’s Polk County Board of County Commissioners

Press Room

National labor and employment law firm Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete, LLP is awarding its 2020 Excellence in Work-Life Balance Award to the Polk County, Florida Board of County Commissioners. For more than a decade, Constangy’s program has recognized organizations that actively create and support work environments conducive to work-life balance.

Work-life balance programs, through applications such as flexible work arrangements, employee wellness programs, telecommuting and job-sharing, can help employees feel truly connected to their companies, fostering loyalty, mutual respect and a positive work environment. A recent study by Gartner found that work-life balance is valued more than health benefits, which makes sense given that work-life integration keeps us healthy.

An independent judge selected the Polk County Board of County Commissioners as this year’s winner of the Constangy award recognizing the organization’s strong programs addressing employees’ mental health, financial literacy, continuing education and flexible schedules. The Board also offers Vitality, a wellness program tailored to employee’s personality types to help make lifestyle changes easy.

The Board’s work environment has contributed to its recognition as one of the best places to work in Polk County. More than 2,200 employees provide services to almost 710,000 residents across 2,000 square miles. “It is vitally important that our employees find balance between work, family and relaxation time,” said County Manager Bill Beasley. “We strive to create a culture of balance by encouraging use of personal time off (PTO) days in addition to annual leave, promoting in our health and wellness program, and investing in opportunities for professional growth and development.”

The judge for this year’s Work-Life Balance Award program was Mary LoVerde, (www.maryloverde.com) a nationally recognized speaker and the author of “I Used to Have a Handle on Life, But It Broke” and three other books on work-life balance.

The Polk County Board of County Commissioners will receive a commemorative crystal trophy and $1,000 donation to their charity of choice, the United Way of Central Florida.
