Constangy Presents Webinar on Enforcement of New Requirements of the CCPA

Constangy partners Jordan Fischer and Sarah Rugnetta presented a webinar reviewing the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) requirements and suggested steps businesses should consider taking to improve their compliance posture prior to the July 1 effective date for enforcement of these new regulatory requirements. The webinar was held June 5. This program is pending CLE credit in California, Georgia, New Jersey and New York.

The webinar, “Enforcement Deadline Approaching! Confirm Whether Your Organization is Compliant with the California Consumer Privacy Act’s Recent Amendments,” detailed applicability of the CCPA after the recent amendments, operationalizing the CCPA within your organization, new requirements for disclosures to applicants, employees and consumers about data processing activities, responding in a timely manner to consumer requests to access records, opt out of sharing data, deletion requests, and revisions to agreements with service providers to incorporate required restrictions on processing, implementation of reasonable security procedures, and data minimization requirements.

Additionally, she has experience with biometric data laws, global data breach standards, and federal and state unfair business practices acts and privacy frameworks such as International Standards Organization (ISO) 27001 and 27701, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the Payment Credit Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

Sarah serves as a vice chair of the Constangy Cyber Team and practices in New York. She leads the provision of compliance advisory services for the Cyber Team, advising clients on strategies to mitigate risk associated with data privacy and security through business-oriented approaches. Sarah has more than 15 years of experience working in the privacy law area. She is a former privacy officer, a former state regulator, and has extensive experience serving as outside counsel for businesses in the fields of health law, data privacy, regulatory compliance, and risk management. She is well-versed in advising clients on the scope and applicability of domestic and international data privacy laws. Sarah helps clients to develop and implement customized privacy programs, data privacy assessments, executive trainings, and tabletop exercises. Sarah also works with clients on strategies to mitigate risks posed by vendor relationships through improved vendor management programs, contracting protocols, and vendor oversight. Additionally, she helps clients to anticipate and effectively respond to potential threats, and assists businesses throughout all phases of information security incidents.
