In the News: Tom Scroggins Joins FreightWaves TV to Discuss DOL Independent Contractor Proposal  

Constangy partner Tom Scroggins was interviewed for Drilling Deep, a web series for FreightWaves TV, discussing changes to independent contractor rules proposed by the Biden administration's Department of Labor and potential implications for the show’s audience of global freight, logistics and supply chain professionals.

With nearly 55,000 responses in the DOL's comment period, the changes to the Trump administration’s rules have garnered a lot of attention from states and affected businesses, especially in the trucking industry, as the definitions of independent contractors and employees are tightened.

While we await the final rule, Scroggins predicted immediate challenges once changes go into effect from industry trade associations and state attorneys general.

In addition to providing his perspective on the feedback and expectations, Scroggins spent time during the interview discussing potential legal pitfalls for the new rules.
