Constangy partner Laura Balson and attorney Joyce Dos Santos will join a panel at the Association of Corporate Counsel's (ACC) Annual Meeting on Oct. 7th at 10:45 a.m. Constangy is also proud to be a Gold Sponsor of this year’s Annual Meeting.

The panel, “Navigating Layoffs and Terminations: A Comprehensive Guide to Legal Compliance and Risk Prevention,” delves into the legal considerations surrounding layoffs and terminations and offers strategies for navigating wrongful termination claims and mitigating litigation risk. Topics will include relevant laws and regulations, dissecting the components of severance agreements in light of recent NLRB rulings, and common post-termination risks. The session is also being offered for CLE/CPD credit.

Laura is the managing partner of the firm's Chicago office, advising employers across industries on risk management and compliance. She conducts employment practice audits, assists with due diligence, and defends employers in litigation before state and federal courts, including the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. Laura has extensive experience with Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) cases, helping employers with compliance and defense strategies. She frequently speaks and trains on legal developments, including sexual harassment prevention and DEI.

Joyce is an employment defense attorney advising employers on workplace issues like discrimination, harassment, and wrongful termination. With experience as both a paralegal and attorney, she represents clients in all phases of litigation, including trials and appeals, and is committed to providing personalized, solution-focused counsel.
