In the News: Andrew Chase Quoted in New York Law Journal on Rising Cybersecurity Risks for Small and Mid-Sized Law Firms
Constangy Cyber Team partner Andrew Chase was quoted in the New York Law Journal examining the evolving legal landscape surrounding data security litigation and privacy-related claims. Andrew observed that many small and mid-size firms are facing a higher volume of attempted scams targeting both their data and their bank balances. He noted that social engineering has become one of the most widespread threats hitting smaller firms directly.
"One of the most prevalent, prolific types of incidents at this point is, unfortunately, social engineering targeting smaller firms," he said. "They'll call and they'll act like they're the banking institution. They'll get enough information to gain access to either the firm's operations account or, more importantly, the firm's trust account."
Andrew also pointed to litigation teams as particularly exposed, describing them as "a target-rich environment" and warning that "mid-sized firms are unfortunately likely to have the most risk" due to their limited resources to defend themselves.
