In the News: Kim Seten Featured in Law.com’s “How I Made Office Managing Partner” Series
In a profile published on Law.com as part of the publication’s “How I Made Office Managing Partner” series, Kim Seten, managing partner of Constangy’s Kansas City office, provided insights on her career journey, including becoming a go-to resource for partners at her own office and colleagues across the nation.
In the article, Kim shared advice for attorneys aiming to ascend to firm leadership, including how she would mentor her younger self, how to keep teams motivated and what qualities a law firm leader should possess.
“If you're working toward partnership, it’s essential to focus not just on the quality of your legal work—but also on how you contribute to the broader success of the firm,” said Kim. “Make yourself known as someone who is responsive, dependable, and easy to collaborate with across offices and practice areas.”
Kim discussed how her rise to office managing partner also involved hard work to establish credibility within the industry as a young woman in a male-dominated field of traditional labor law.
“Early on, I often found myself as the only woman—and certainly the youngest—in rooms full of seasoned male attorneys, union representatives, or company executives,” she said. “Earning respect in those settings wasn’t automatic; I had to command it through preparation, confidence, and persistence.”
Kim's determination, collaborative nature, and client-focused approach serve her well in her role as office managing partner and as a representative of construction and franchising companies in compliance and labor and employment matters.
