In the News: Nicole Davies Discusses Managing Multistate PTO Policies Ahead of the Holiday Season

Media Mention
The Legal Intelligencer

Constangy associate attorney Nicole Davies authored an article for The Legal Intelligencer discussing how to navigate paid time off policies for companies with employees residing in multiple states, especially with the upcoming holiday season.

Nicole provided insight on understanding the labor and employment laws of different states and municipalities where a company may operate. She stressed the importance of avoiding ambiguity when developing paid time off policies and establishing clear expectations, as vague rules may lead to perceived favoritism and dissatisfaction within the workplace.

“As you review your paid time off policies, consider the most significant concerns you are hearing from your managers and staff and incorporate the respective feedback,” said Nicole. “It’s also important to assess the effectiveness of the current PTO policy, including monitoring PTO usage across departments and time periods, identifying trends such as consistently used PTO or spikes in time off requests, and adjusting staffing and workload distribution based on insights gained.”
