Constangy Names John MacDonald Co-Chair of Transactional Solutions Practice Group

Press Room

Constangy is pleased to announce that partner John MacDonald, managing partner of the firm’s Princeton office and co-managing partner of the Northern New Jersey office, has been named co-chair of the firm’s Transactional Solutions Practice Group. He will serve alongside Boston-based partner Dave Kurtz.

“I’m excited to help lead a group that plays such a pivotal role in guiding employers through complex transitions,” said John. “Our team provides critical insight into the employment law risks and opportunities that arise during corporate transactions. I look forward to working alongside Dave to continue delivering thoughtful, business-focused counsel that helps our clients achieve successful outcomes.”

Constangy’s Transactional Solutions Practice Group serves as a strategic partner for employers navigating the labor and employment law aspects of corporate transactions—including mergers, acquisitions, private placements, IPOs, and business unit purchases. The team provides cost-effective, practical guidance at every stage of the deal process, from pre-transaction audits and due diligence to drafting employment agreements and integrating workplace cultures post-close. Unlike traditional corporate firms, Constangy’s team offers deep, real-time experience across the full spectrum of workplace law—ranging from wage and hour compliance and restrictive covenants to labor relations, OSHA, immigration, ERISA, and more. With nearly 200 attorneys nationwide focused solely on labor and employment issues, Constangy ensures that potential liabilities are uncovered, addressed, and mitigated—helping clients avoid costly surprises and achieve smooth, compliant transitions.

John brings decades of experience in employment and labor law, including restrictive covenant litigation (non-competition, non-solicitation, and non-disclosure), employment counseling, securities industry litigation, and FINRA arbitration. He has successfully represented clients in high-stakes matters in federal and state courts across New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and New York, as well as before the New Jersey Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

Before beginning his legal career, John worked as a financial analyst in the European bond department at Bloomberg L.P., giving him a unique perspective on the intersection of business, finance, and law.
