National labor and employment law firm Constangy, Brooks, Smith and Prophete, LLP is pleased to announce Salvador “Sal” Simao has joined the firm to lead expansion efforts in the Northeast and will be opening a new office in northern New Jersey. Sal joins Constangy from FordHarrison, where he was both the Northeast Regional Managing Partner and managed their New Jersey office.

Simao is a seasoned litigator with more than 25 years of experience in labor and employment law with an emphasis on wage and hour compliance and litigation. As part of his practice, he has handled multilayered misclassification class actions, counseled Fortune 500 companies and trade associations on complex wage and hour matters, successfully defended government contractors in debarment proceedings, and defended employers against allegations of discrimination, sexual and racial harassment, whistle-blowing and retaliation. Sal also conducts cost-effective audits that provide practical business-oriented solutions to assist companies in avoiding substantial liability while still achieving their business goals. Simao has been recognized by Chambers, Best Lawyers, Lawdragon, Super Lawyers and others. Early in his career he was a trial attorney at the U.S. Department of Labor where he won several Secretary exceptional achievement awards for successfully litigating complex wage hour matters and was the youngest attorney at that time to win attorney of the year.

“I was attracted to Constangy because of their investment in cutting edge technology, use of alternative staffing models and other innovations that will allow me to provide cost efficient high quality legal services to my clients,” said Simao. “The firm’s emphasis on creating a collaborative culture and its commitment to diversity strongly aligns with my values. There is a positive energy at Constangy that is contagious and I am excited to join their efforts in strategically expanding nationally.”

“We have an aggressive growth strategy, and are excited to have Sal on board to lead our newest office in New Jersey and help drive future expansion,” said Neil Wasser, chair of Constangy’s executive committee. “Sal’s strength in wage and hour class actions and his strong focus on the retail and transportation industries are a great fit for us, and we’re excited to have him add to our growing bench strength in the Northeast.”

As part of its Northeast growth, earlier this month Constangy welcomed Christopher Deubert as senior counsel in its Boston office, adding to the firm’s depth in the sports and hospitality sectors.
