In the News: Chris Deubert Speaks to Bloomberg Law on the US Soccer Federation's Antitrust Lawsuits
Constangy senior counsel Chris Deubert was recently quoted in a Bloomberg Law article on two antitrust lawsuits involving the US Soccer Federation. One suit, set for trial in September, involves the defunct North American Soccer League and alleges harm from US Soccer's close relationship with Major League Soccer (MLS). The other involves Relevant Sports LLC, which claims US Soccer impeded its business of hosting overseas soccer teams for games in the US.
“Antitrust is generally one of the areas of law that judges have the hardest time understanding,” says Chris. “You have complex economic analysis from experts and a mix of economics and law.”
These cases pose a significant burden for US Soccer and its new chief legal officer, J. Carlos Kuri, because of the potential for large attorneys' fees and significant damages.
