Last month, a jury found the NFL guilty of violating antitrust laws with its Sunday Ticket package. As result, the NFL has been ordered to pay $4.7 billion to fans who paid for the streaming package. In a post-verdict motion filed in July 3, the NFL asked the judge to overturn the verdict or order a new trial.

Constangy senior counsel Chris Deubert spoke to Front Office Sports on the verdict and the NFL main arguments, including the argument that the damages were incorrectly calculated. "The NFL was right to say the jury’s award has to be reasonably connected to the evidence. And it [isn’t]. They have a pretty strong argument that that’s not the case here. That they, the jury, sort of made something up,” Chris told Front Office Sports. “There would have had to have been evidence that shows that the class members should have only been charged, you know, $50 or $65 and were actually paying $294. But that does not seem to be the evidence,” he continued.

The NFL will likely learn the judge's response to its motion at its hearing on July 31.
