Constangy attorneys Joey Mackey and Gary Wheeler presented a webinar on the ins and outs of paid and protected leave on Nov. 29. SHRM and HRCI credits were offered for this webinar.

During the webinar, our attorneys surveyed the legal requirements of leave from employment under certain state laws and federal laws, discussed the related rights and obligations of employees and employers alike, explored recent legislative changes in states like California, Colorado, Connecticut, and Oregon regarding paid sick leave requirements, and highlighted amendments in Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, and Oregon, affecting paid or protected family and medical leave requirements.

Joey focuses his practice on various labor and employment matters. He strives to provide insightful and effective legal advice and aims to be a problem-solver for clients. Joey counsels clients regarding day-to-day employment decisions and issues, such as employee policies, discipline, terminations, severance, and disability accommodations. He also represents employers before administrative agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Gary has represented employers exclusively in both the private and public sectors since graduating from law school in 1997. His experience includes successfully defending employers in all aspects of labor and employment law. Gary is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit, as well as the Florida state bar. Gary is a frequent lecturer at seminars for employers. He provides in-house training on workplace issues to supervisory and management employees.
