Jo Bennett Joins Constangy Labor & Employment Team as Partner in Philadelphia
Constangy is pleased to announce that Jo Bennett has joined the firm as a partner in its Philadelphia office, strengthening the firm's labor and employment litigation and compliance services in the region.
"We are excited Jo has joined the team with her decades of trial experience, deep subject-matter insight, and a genuine commitment to helping clients manage risk before it becomes litigation," said Neil Wasser, chair of Constangy's executive committee. “Our goal as a firm has been to expand through strategic talent acquisitions like Jo that bolster our client service in key markets throughout the country.”
Jo advises and represents employers across the full range of labor and employment matters, helping businesses manage workplace risk, address day-to-day employment issues, and resolve complex disputes. Her advisory practice includes wage and hour compliance, employee classification, workplace policies, employee discipline, leaves of absence, disability accommodations, reductions in force, restrictive covenants, and workplace investigations. She also counsels government contractors on federal and state EEO and diversity compliance obligations.
Jo has served as lead counsel in high-stakes litigation for national and Fortune 10 clients, including wage-and-hour collective and class actions. Her record includes summary judgment victories in religious, age, and race discrimination and retaliation cases under Title VII, the ADA, and the FMLA; directed verdicts on ADA accommodation and FMLA termination claims; defense verdicts in race discrimination and Title VII and ADA retaliation cases; and a successful post-trial motion as lead trial counsel in a Title VII gender harassment case. That trial experience informs the practical, proactive guidance she provides on workplace policies, investigations, and litigation-avoidance strategies. Jo also maintains an active ADR practice, serving as an EEOC mediator and recently being selected to join an employment arbitration panel.
Jo's contributions to the profession have been widely recognized. She has been named to The Best Lawyers in America® for Employment Law Management since 2018 and Labor and Employment Litigation since 2020. She twice received the President's Award for Leadership & Service from the American Association for Access, Equity, and Diversity. She is a member of the American Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section, the Society for Human Resource Management, the Philadelphia Bar Association, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Industry Liaison Group.
Jo earned her J.D., cum laude, from Temple University's James E. Beasley School of Law and her B.A., summa cum laude, from Western Kentucky University.
