Joanna’s core practice focuses on complex wage and hour class, collective and PAGA actions in both state and federal courts.
Throughout her career, Joanna has assisted employers in all aspects of labor and employment litigation, including wrongful termination, employment discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour, and breach of contract. She has developed experience in employment law issues unique to several industries, including financial services, retail, agriculture, hospitality, and transportation. In unionized settings, Joanna has represented clients in unfair labor practices proceedings, collective bargaining negotiations, as well as union certification and decertification election campaigns. Joanna also litigates complex lawsuits alleging whistleblower retaliation under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair competition, and breach of restrictive covenants. Joanna enjoys being in the trenches with her clients—for example, she has visited clients’ dairy farms and food processing facilities on several occasions.
Prior to joining Constangy, Joanna was an associate attorney for the labor and employment department of McGuireWoods. While in law school, Joanna clerked for the Honorable T. Jackson Bedford in the Superior Court of Fulton County, Georgia. Before law school, Joanna worked as a Supply Chain Analyst for Schlumberger Ltd., the largest oilfield services company in the world, where she negotiated high-profile procurement contracts with international suppliers.
Joanna grew up as an expatriate and lived in countries such as Peru, Chile, Indonesia, and Singapore. Because of her upbringing, Joanna has experienced several adventures—and was even evacuated out of a country while in high school due to massive riots. Although she is very happy in Los Angeles, Joanna enjoys international travel, and tries to visit at least one new country each year. Joanna also loves animals, and is the proud owner of a Labrador-mix rescue dog named Pumpkin.
