Constangy partner Guillermo Escobedo recently authored an article for Law360 discussing how volunteering at schools has made him a better lawyer.

“Returning to elementary school after earning my law degree educated me on the importance of volunteering to give back, as well as its side benefits to my career,” stated Guillermo.

Guillermo detailed his first experience giving back to his community and speaking to a classroom of elementary students, which provided him with a unique perspective that sometimes the first step to achieving something is knowing that it is possible. He also discussed how important it is to have oral advocacy skills as a lawyer, which you are sure to develop in a room full of curious elementary school students.

Guillermo also highlighted how opportunities to give back to the community also expand your professional network as you build relationships with community members.

“Give a few hours a month — but give,” Guillermo recommended. “It is an act that will never be regretted, and that pays back tenfold.”
