Overview
José represents employers in complex employment matters, with experience defending against wage and hour class actions, representative PAGA actions, and discrimination, harassment, and wrongful termination claims.
He has significant experience in motion practice — including compelling arbitration — as well as managing discovery, preparing matters for arbitration and mediation, and developing effective litigation strategies for employers.
Before joining Constangy, José practiced at boutique and global law firms in Los Angeles, where he represented both mid-sized and large employers across industries. His practice included defending class and representative actions, drafting removal papers, participating in successful mediations, preparing settlement agreements, and conducting internal investigations into allegations of workplace misconduct and harassment. José also has experience supporting complex commercial litigation and bankruptcy matters, and previously served on a trial team for a multi-million-dollar enforcement action.
José earned his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and completed international legal studies at the University of Copenhagen and Lund University. He received his B.A. in Political Science/International Relations from the University of California, San Diego.
About Me
When not advocating on behalf of his clients, José enjoys spending his free time with his nieces and siblings, as well as taking his classic Corvette convertible out for a leisurely cruise among the many canyons surrounding the L.A. basin. More of a gearhead than a sports fan, José enjoys almost all things automotive-related, including regularly attending the annual L.A. Auto Show.
