Constangy is pleased to announce the appointment of Hunter Johnson, partner and head of the firm’s Dallas office, as co-chair of the Whistleblower & Retaliation Practice Group. He will serve alongside Laura Balson, a partner based in the firm’s Chicago office.

With nearly three decades of experience advising and defending employers, Hunter brings a strategic and solutions-oriented perspective to the co-chair role. He is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a recognition he has held since 2000.

“I’m honored to step into this leadership role and work alongside Laura in guiding our Whistleblower & Retaliation team,” said Hunter. “This area of law continues to evolve quickly, and we’re focused on helping clients navigate not just the legal risks, but also the operational challenges that can come with whistleblower and retaliation issues. Our goal is to provide practical, forward-thinking support that helps employers build trust and maintain compliance.”

A Leadership Role Built on Experience

Throughout his career, Hunter has advised national and regional employers on a wide range of workplace matters, including discrimination and harassment claims, wage and hour class and collective actions, whistleblower issues, and leave-related disputes under both state and federal law.

He has extensive experience litigating in federal and state courts and has led the defense in high-stakes matters, including a recently resolved nationwide Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) collective action and an EEOC investigation involving complex wage disparity and background check claims.

Hunter also advises corporate clients on employment agreements, including non-competition, non-solicitation, and confidentiality matters. He routinely counsels employers on compliance, litigation avoidance, and best practices in workforce management.

Strategic Client Service

In addition to his litigation and counseling work, Johnson serves as a relationship partner for several national clients, collaborating with in-house counsel and HR leadership to coordinate employment law support across multiple jurisdictions. His work includes managing litigation strategy, advising on employment policies, and staffing matters with attorneys across the firm’s national platform.

He also plays a key role in the firm’s operations, contributing to the business side of legal practice and helping ensure that client service remains consistent and efficient across offices.

Recognitions and Certifications

Hunter has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® for Litigation – Labor and Employment (2021–2022, 2024–2025), reflecting his long-standing experience in the field. He has also maintained Board Certification in Labor and Employment Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for over two decades.
