Chris is well-recognized for his deep knowledge of sports and the law, having published more than 30 academic publications, and providing commentary for Forbes.com and teaching online courses for the Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. His approach is collaborative and pragmatic, designed to help clients achieve their business objectives while mitigating legal risk.
Chris previously served as General Counsel for D.C. United of Major League Soccer, acting as chief legal counsel for the ownership group’s sports, stadium, real estate, and operational interests. In that role, he oversaw a wide range of legal issues, including litigation, contracts, sponsorships, stadium operations, sports betting, corporate governance, intellectual property, employment and labor matters, internal investigations, and vendor management. He also managed the Human Resources, IT, and Operations Departments, developing and implementing employment policies covering workplace discrimination, harassment, wage and hour compliance, workplace safety, ethics, confidentiality, DEI, social media usage, performance management, and more.
Chris’s experience includes in-house work with Hilton Hotels & Resorts, where he managed and advised on global disputes, litigations, arbitrations, and mediations, with a particular focus on domestic employment litigation, California wage and hour class actions, and Private Attorney General Act claims. He also previously operated a solo practice representing sports industry clients—including teams, athletes, agents, and start-ups—on litigation, league matters, transactional needs, corporate governance, and intellectual property.
