Biden Time: DOL nominee Walsh advances to Senate vote

Marty moves ahead!

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee voted 18-4 yesterday to send the nomination of Boston Mayor Marty Walsh to the full Senate, where he is expected to be confirmed.

Mayor Walsh is President Biden's nominee for Secretary of Labor. Under the DOL umbrella are the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, and the Wage and Hour Division, among other agencies.

In addition to the Democrats, a number of Republicans on the Committee voted to advance his nomination, including ranking Republican Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.). Sen. Tuberville was endorsed by President Trump in the 2020 Republican primary, in which he ran against former Trump Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
